After following his family to America for a little over a month, Tâm was taken to school by his father to register for enrollment.

Tâm's school is really nice-looking. The first sight that caught Tâm's attention was the vast parking lot, the spacious sports playground and fully equipped with training tools. Inside is a smooth and really green grass lawn of the schoolyard that looks soft and cool. The classrooms are all brand-new, bright, and artistic, giving Tâm the impression that they were just newly built.
Every day, Tâm enjoys going to school to listen to his teachers lecture and together with his friends to compete in studying.

    2 Chọn 10 chữ sau đây và đặt câu cho mỗi chữ.  Những chữ này được dùng trong bài văn trang 20.

Bài kiểm tra: Tục ngữ

     1. Biết đọc, hiểu nghĩa, và biết viết câu tuc ngữ.

            Một cây làm chẳng nên non,
            Ba cây chụm lại nên hòn núi cao.

Cây: tree
Làm: to make something, to do, to work
chẳng: not
nên: to become
non, hòn núi, núi: mountain
chụm lại: bundled together
cao: tall

  1. Dịch ra tiếng Anh theo nghĩa từng chữ (literal translation) trong câu tục .

    Một cây làm chẳng nên non,
    One tree can not become a mountain,

    Ba cây chụm lại nên hòn núi cao.
    Three trees combined together become a tall mountain.
  2. Dịch ra tiếng Anh theo ý nghĩa (underlying meaning) của câu tục ngữ.

    One person cannot achieve much by himself / herself.
    However, when many people unite, they will achieve major accomplishments.

Ý nghĩa: một nguời không làm đuợc gì, nhưng nhiều nguời hợp
lại sẽ làm đuợc chuyện lớn lao. Câu ca dao khuyên ta hãy đoàn kết.

        My School School (Ngôi Trường Của Em) -

Today is the very first day of the new school year. Tâm talks about his impressions of his school with Tuấn after a summer vacation spent away from school and friends.

·        Tâm: Hey Tuấn, do you miss your school back in Vietnam?
·        Tuấn: I definitely miss it. I miss the friends over there.
·        Tâm: When I first moved here, it was also the same for me; I missed so many things.
·        Tuấn: But what I miss the most is the lady who sold (bán) sticky rice (xôi) in front of the school gate.
·        Tâm: Why is that? Is she a relative of yours, Tuấn?
·        Tuấn: No. It's because I often used to eat her sticky rice before heading into class.
·        Tâm: Oh, it's different over here. What I miss the most are those outdoor activities.
·        Tuấn: Is that so? As for me, I just worry about buying sticky rice and eating it quickly so I can make it into class on time.
·        Tâm: Over here, we also have sports hours, which are very fun.
·        Tuấn: Is there soccer? Is there a soccer field?
·        Tâm: Yes, there is! You will see later, Tuấn; the field is very vast.
·        Tuấn: I like that very much! I really love playing soccer.

Có công mài sắt, có ngày nên kim.

Literal translation: With the effort to sharpen the iron, there will be a day it becomes the needle.
Underlying meaning: When you put in the effort over time to work on a goal, you will achieve that goal.
